About Transition

Transition are a three piece British rock band creating music that touches the soul - a fusion of eastern and western musical influence! Their roots are in Bristol, U.K, but they combine this rock foundation with Asian rhythm and melody, producing music that inspires audiences from both sides of the globe.

Transitionʼs three years living and performing in Taiwan had a profound effect on their lives and music, especially their song-writing. Their first mandarin song ʻSorry My Chinese Isnʼt so Goodʼ became an instant youtube hit. It gathered over a million views, and is now an anthem for all foreigners learning Chinese!

Another landmark came in 2012 when the band were given the honour of writing the official theme song for the Taiwanese Olympic team for the London 2012 Games - the first ever foreign band to be given this opportunity!

In December 2013, Transition released their first ever mandarin album, ʻKua Yueʼ.

Arrangement and production include the involvement of several well known names: Jay Chou (arrangement advice), Wing Lo (lyrical assistance) and the bandʼs long- term friend, Sam Bell (U2, REM, Robbie Williams, Snow Patrol, Bloc Party, Editors) All this created an inspirational finish to the recorded sounds! ‘Kua Yue’ is a great showcase for the bandʼs unique fusion of east/west rock and stayed in the Taiwanese independent charts top 5 for most of December 2013!

Bassist Niall Dunne decided that the end of 2013 was the time to say goodbye to the band, making this album an historic part of the bandʼs journey, but also ushering in a new era for Transition.

Through 2014 Transition played venues across the UK (London, Bristol, Portsmouth, Oxford etc) and added to their global reach when featured on BBC World Service.
Spring 2014 saw Transition selected by the British Recorded Music Industry as just one of 13 bands in the whole country to receive support for foreign touring. In the autumn, this resulted in the band visiting 10 cities in mainland China, traveling thousands of miles and performing to many thousands of fans across the country.
A final achievement of 2014 saw Transition once again making history as they became the first ever western band to be nominated for a mandarin music award, attending the award ceremony of Taiwan’s Golden Indie Music Awards in December 2014.

As students all across the world have been using Transition’s songs to learn Chinese for a few years already, the band’s role in the educational sector has begun to grow, with invitations from schools around the world, including UK, Hong Kong, USA, Taiwan, to take workshops, do presentations and perform, inspiring students with their unique story of crossing borders and boundaries.

The summer of 2015 saw Transition embarking on their biggest tour yet, taking their live show to 21 Poly Grand Theatres in 21 cities throughout mainland China, reaching audiences in the tens of thousands.

2016 has seen the band hard at work on their new mandarin album, which will see them return to Taiwan to launch it, notably with two shows at the legendary Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall venue in Taipei!
